Smoke A Cigar In Havana (Illinois, That Is!)
Terry Ewing enjoys a cigar during a cigar
event in historic Havana, IL.
The Midwest Cigar Summit is pleased to announce that cigar events will
once again be held in historic Havana, Illinois this summer. Havana is
where the predecessor events to the Cigar Summit were held starting in
2004.
The first event will be Sunday, July 20, at a new 4,000-square foot
outdoor venue known as the Gas Line Lounge & Sidewalk Cafe in the
200 block of W. Main St.
The event is free. Gates will open at 1 p.m. Food, drinks and cigars will
be available for purchase. At 2 p.m. local historian Nancy Iona Glick will
lead one of her very popular walking tours of cigar making locations in
Havana. These tours are full of interesting facts and tid bits that Nancy
has uncovered over the years. Musical entertainment also will be
provided.
Among the cigars available for purchase will be the limited release of the
2008 Havana Heritage cigar. The cigar, originally released in 2006,
honors the considerable cigar making history of Havana.
From the 1850s to 1960 there were more than 80 cigar makers living and
working in Havana. The cigars made and marketed in Havana carried
such great names as The Cuban Smoker, Even Money, The Graduate,
Hahn's Havana and Big Hit Smoker.
Taking place the same weekend will be power boat races in the Illinois
River with great viewing from Havana's riverfront park. For more
information about Havana visit www.scenichavana.com.
The Cigar Summit is working with Terry Svob, economic development
coordinator in Havana, to bring the events back to town.
So come on out Sunday, July 20 and enjoy a smoke in a beautiful
outdoor setting in historic Havana, IL.
